![]() The next problem was that none of the controls on the controller moved any of the controls on the screen. This was a recurring problem, but it’s not limited to this controller – it’s common from my experience, but luckily is often solved by doing the above. The hardware wasn’t recognised on first plugging in, but on unplugging and plugging in again it was. Now Windows PCs are generally harder to set up DJ gear on than Macs, due to needing audio drivers to work with DJ sound cards, but this had it all done in four clicks including driver installation. Meanwhile, round the back are a USB socket and 2 x RCA outputs for the master out.įor the first time ever in one of our reviews, we set this up on a Windows PC (after all, I suggest most users will be using a Windows laptop at this price point). The front of the FirstMix Pro has a 1/4″ microphone jack socket, an 1/8″ headphones socket, and two small, stiff volume controls for mic and headphones respectively. And while the hard plastic backlit buttons are reasonably spread out, the knobs and encoders (of which some are rubberised) feel cramped due to the unit’s overall pretty small size. The faders, on the other hand, are all shorter than ideal, apart from the crossfader, which is actually longer than most scratch DJs would ideally like. The jogwheels are its best feature, being substantial, weighted and closer to CDJ jogwheels than most controllers out there, at any price. ![]() The unit itself is compact and made of two-tone black/silver plastic, and it has a pleasing weight to it. You’ll need your own audio cable, as there isn’t one included. Inside the box is the controller, plus a bag containing a program CD, a serial number on a card, and a USB cable to connect the unit to your computer. Let’s find out in our full Gemini FirstMix pro review and video… First Impressions That is, of course, if we think the FirstMix Pro is a good buy. That’s a “proper” DJ controller (ie with decent-sized jogwheels, a sound card for your headphones and master output), and software that has everything you need to get going on it, including the ability to record your sets.Ĭhoose the Gemini FirstMix Pro instead of the Numark Mixtrack Pro (the previous lowest-priced DJ controller we’ve been able to recommend), and you’d have enough left over to buy a decent pair of headphones (or a copy of our How To Digital DJ Fast video training) as well! So in theory, there’s never been a cheaper way to get going in digital DJing. Because for the new lower street price of just US$129, you get a DJ controller with all the essentials on it, plus decent DJ software – on paper, amazing value. With the above to consider and much more to discover, Cross DJ is by all means a powerful and practical tool that can appeal to both bedroom and professional DJs.The Gemini FirstMix Pro has been around for a little while, but it’s arguably just come of age. Or even easier, the application provides an ‘Analyze’ feature that automatically scans the track and extracts that information. In case the file doesn’t make that information available, you can drop it into a deck and it is automatically displayed. The latter comes in very handy when you want to keep a constant tempo throughout a set. Inside the library you can see the track’s title, artist, genre and BPM. The library can handle as much music as your hard drive can feed it and if you’re an Apple user, it even syncs up with iTunes and allows you to play tracks from there. A good thing that Cross DJ implements is that it allows you to use your keyboard to control various functions of the application. Not that that’s a bad thing since every single one has a well defined role that is meant to improve your performance. The only thing that can actually bother you is the fact that there are way too many buttons on the screen. Everything is easy to spot, click and adjust. You get waveform display for loaded tracks, cue and sync buttons, hot cues, effects, loops and an easy to manage library among many others.Ĭross DJ displays a user-friendly interface with an intuitive and well thought out button layout. The application provides you with all the must-have features that any professional DJing tool should have. This way, you can easily set-up your hardware along with the laptop, load the tracks and start playing some quality music. Cross DJ is a sturdy and reliable DJing application created to be used especially with Pioneer CDJ hardware.ĭesigned to handle CDJs, you can expect that everything in the application is mapped to fit with all the controls and features of the devices.
